The Short Answer

IBC tanks hold 5x more liquid than a standard 55-gallon drum, take up roughly the same floor space, are easier to move with a forklift, and cost less per gallon of capacity. For most bulk liquid applications over 100 gallons, IBC tanks are the more efficient choice.

Drums still make sense for small-batch operations, applications requiring multiple product types in the same space, hazardous materials requiring specific drum-rated packaging, and situations where manual handling without a forklift is the norm.
